History
May 15, 1953 – Kilian Concrete Products, Inc. formed as ready-mix concrete supply business (By Carl Kilian and wife Louise)
Mascoutah office and plant located 700 block West Main Street – Additional plants opened in Greenville and Highland areas
Sept. 1954 – Name changed to Kilian Building Materials Company, Inc.
April 1958 – Kilian Asphalt Paving Corporation formed (to perform road oiling) – primarily did work at Scott Air Force Base
Dec. 1964 – Name changed to The Kilian Corporation
Jan. 1965 – Kilian Asphalt Paving Corporation merged with The Kilian Corporation
1965 – Office building and ready mix plant were moved from West Main to land located south of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad and East of Route 4 in Mascoutah
1973 – Carl Kilian passed away and son, Donald E. Kilian, expanded company into several aspects of heavy/highway construction and building construction services
1980 – Awarded first bridge contract by the St. Clair County Department of Roads and Bridges (work, at this time, was plentiful with Scott Air Force Base, local municipalities, and the Illinois Department of Transportation)
1981 – Donald Kilian passed away and his wife, Leona Kilian, took over the company
Late 1980s – Building construction and ready-mix concrete markets became unprofitable for the company, so decided to stop delivering concrete (model also changed from including building construction back to its interest in government road and bridge projects, asphalt paving, and hydro-demolition)
Currently – Donald and Leona Kilian’s three sons, James Kilian, Ken Kilian, and Jeff Kilian, manage the company. (James Kilian – president; Ken Kilian – Vice-President; and Jeff Kilian – Assistant Secretary/Treasurer and project manager)
